Menosgada - An Explanation

StaffelbergMichael's birthplace lies at the foot of a mountain, the rocky cliff of which once was the acropolis of the mightiest celtic „oppidum“ on the upper Main.

Archaeological excavations suggest that this settlement was nothing else but the „Menosgada“ the Greek mathematician and geographer Claudius Ptolemaeus mentioned around the year 150. However, at that time Menosgada had already perished. Its fall was sealed by the Germanic invasion one or two centuries before.

Searching for a name for his band, Michael remembered climbing the mountain and hearing the story of its past when he was a kid. Thus, „Menosgada“ is both a marker of the historical Germanic expansion the band is singing of and part of our personal history.
